Nat O’Rourke from Sea Tribe

Tell us a little about your background, and how you came to where you are today?

I started my career as a visual merchandiser with Freedom. My passion has always been with interiors, and this was a great place to start my journey in the home decor industry. I soon worked my way into a state VM management role but decided I wanted to get into buying and be part of the design process of creating products I love. This saw me take on a role at Flower Power as their homeware & furniture buyer. Although I love putting the product together & styling it, I found my true passion lies with creating products that I myself love.

It was after the birth of my third child that I realised I needed to do something from home that I could still fulfil my creative passion of product design & working in the only industry I’ve ever known - retail! Sea Tribe is the result. I draw inspiration from Coastal & Bohemian styling. My products are simply an extension of what I love and look for when selecting special pieces to buy.

What is your style ethos, and where do you draw style inspiration from?

I have always loved Coastal styling, and over recent years, the emergence of bohemian textures has also played a part in my inspiration. My brand is based around the style Coastal Bohemian, although I feel it also fits into many genres from Scandi to Classic to contemporary. I draw inspiration from global trends, using colours and textures that are true to my brand- neutral earthy tones, reminiscent of nature’s palette.

Who would be your style icon, and why?

The Instagram community is so inspiring! Some of my style icons are these everyday people with amazing style. On a more global scale, Amber Interiors always delivers amazing pieces and styling. In Australia, Villa Styling has a great eye for styling and photography.

What do you look for, when on holiday?

A great holiday for me includes good food and wine, a comfortable bed (and I must say, Soul had one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in!), a variety of things to do in the area (like a beach, pool, interesting shops)

What is your favourite element at Soul, and why?

It’s too hard to pick just one! Honestly, the entire place is designed and decorated to perfection. It always helps when you stay somewhere that’s beautiful to look at. We enjoyed our time by the outdoor fire on our first night, the pool was a perfect place to hang out in during the day, but the bed was beyond amazing!

In three words, how would you describe Soul?

1. Beautiful
2. Relaxing
3. Quality

Catherine from The Stables

Tell us a little about your background, and how you came to where you are today?

After completing my study in design at Enmore Design Centre I established my own property styling business which I ran for close to ten years. I loved the fast-paced nature of Property Styling but once I started my own family, I decided I wanted to slow things down a little and get back to the basics with design so I established The Stables straight after I sold my other business. I love working closely with my clients and seeing a space transform over time into the vision that I had at the outset of the project. I have always chosen to work for myself as I love the flexibility it gives me and this is so important for me and my family, Thursdays are my day off so it allows me the time to spend with my son doing swimming lessons and having some time at the beach!

What is your style ethos, and where do you draw style inspiration from?

When designing for a client, I like to give a nod to the current trends but I remain as timeless as I can. It’s important for me that the spaces I create stand the test of time and don’t date quickly, it’s a big investment for most clients to style their homes so I try to make smart decisions when specifying for them! My interiors are generally very light, clean and simple and I like to layer them with soft muted colours and layers of texture for warmth. I draw so much inspiration from what other designers are doing in the industry. I tend to have a few key designers and architects that I really admire and I love to see what materials they are specifying currently and how they are mixing them up. I love to see their joinery designs, I have an obsession with joinery and detailing so I am constantly hunting down inspiration for that! Instagram is my go-to platform for seeing what others are doing followed closely by design magazines.

Who would be your style icon, and why?

It is nearly impossible for me to name one! Mim Design, Whiting Architects, Hecker Guthrie and Heartly would be some of my favourites. In terms of furniture design, I adore Jardan and Zuster – I am a huge supporter of Australian made and Australian designed!

What do you look for, when on holiday?

I would love to say that I look for a place to truly unwind and unplug but I would be lying! The reality is that I have a three-year-old so I need a destination that is family friendly, a place where I can take my three-year-old and know that he is going to have a good time too!

What is your favourite element at Soul, and why?

Do I really have to name one! It is nearly impossible, it is truly one of the most amazing properties that I have visited! If I had to name one, it would probably be the attention to detail as it flows across every space and aspect of the property. Every room is styled perfectly, everything has been thought of and everything just flows. I literally cannot fault Soul, it is an incredible experience that I would highly recommend to ANYONE that will listen!

In three words, how would you describe Soul?

Relaxed. Divine. Comfort.

What is your Soul tip, for visitors to Gerringong?

We had an incredible dinner at The Blue Swimmer Crab in Gerroa, I would highly recommend that! A visit to Berry to browse the local shops is also a must! The beaches along the coast here are pristine, a characteristic of beaches along the South Coast of NSW so don’t limit yourself to one! Beach hop, each one is different…try as many as you can out!

Tahnee Carroll of Citizens of Style

Tahnee Carroll 02.jpg

Tell us a little about your background, and how you came to where you are today?

I’ve always been into Architecture and Interiors, even as a teenager, so my progression into styling came quite easily, I assisted some of the top Australian stylists for a couple of years after completing my study, until I was confident to pitch my own ideas to Real Living magazine, and I’ve just progressed from there, I now style campaigns for big brands such as Cotton On and Country Road and all alongside my best bud, business sidekick and all round amazing photographer Lynden Foss.

What is your style ethos, and where do you draw style inspiration from?

Re-use, Recycle, Be sustainable and take care of the planet. I draw inspiration from the Interiors of the 70’s, the muted, earthy colour palette truly resonates with me. I always use repurposed/vintage/antiques where possible and if not available I use sustainable suppliers and local craftsman. It's important to consider where the product you’re buying is coming from, what its made of and how well the workers were treated. Shopping local and buying vintage furniture is the easiest way to ensure your footprint is small.

Who would be your style icon, and why?

Jane Birkin, she’s got this free-spirited style with a bohemian edge and a simplicity that the french just nail every time (even though she’s not french).

What do you look for, when on holiday?

I like a good balance, I go on holidays to unwind, drink cocktails and eat copious amounts of delicious food but I'm also an active person and love to go surfing or going on hikes to pass the days.

What is your favourite element at Soul, and why?

I loved being welcomed by the huge frangipani tree at the front gate, it instantly says summer to me! Oh and don’t get me started on that on incredible fireplace!!

What is your Soul tip, for visitors to Gerringong?

A trip to 'the farm' surf spot, such a beautiful little beach with fun waves too! I went for a quick surf here before checking in and spotted a turtle.
